ARRANGEMENTS have been concluded Abetween the Government-controlled railway companies, under which a common user of ropes came into operation as from August 1 st. The scheme is on similar lines to that applying to the common user of wagons, and will enable greater use to be made of the ropes and effect a saving in clerical work. ACURIOUS accident recently occurred ton the Dublin & South Eastern Railway at Harcourt Street, Dublin. An engine with tender attached was taken into the cleaning shed overnight. Between 1 and 2 o'clock the next morning one of the cleaners, Thomas Connor, attempted to bring the engine up to a coal wagon. The engine moved rapidly over the rails and when Connor tried to reverse it he failed. The tender struck the end of the shed and, with the engine, fell into the garden of a police inspector 20ft below.
