A racing vessel, Earthrace, is claimed to be one of the fastest and most eco-friendly boats around. It is described as "looking like a cross between a floating bat-mobile and a spaceship". The boat, which can apparently submarine 7 metres underwater, runs with a net zero carbon-footprint and is currently on tour around Europe prior to starting a world speed record attempt to circumnavigate the globe using only biodiesel fuels.rnThe 24m wavepiercing trimaran was designed by Crag Loomis, using hull technology originally formulated for passenger ferry applications, and later applied to military craft. Wave-piercers have a very fine bow with minimal reserve buoyancy in the forward portions of the hull to minimize vertical motions. When a wave is encountered, the hull pierces through the water rather than riding over the top.
