£40m for Cambridge University e-research

The growth in demand for internet capacity is fuelling a quest by telecommunications companies for ever faster and more efficient technology. Companies are increasingly looking towards the university sector as a breeding ground for the new ideas they need. Last week, communications company Marconi (the former GEC) announced it is to invest £40m in a new communications research centre at Cambridge University, the largest sum of corporate funding the university has ever received.
