From firewire to robot vision. From measuring extreme temperatures to networking hi-tech automotive systems, advances in sensor technology are proving to be an important enabler in technology development. Nowhere has the technology drive been more apparent than in machine vision systems. The machine vision market has recently seen the emergence of Firewire sensor technology relating to the cameras used as a standard front end as the eyes of the vision system,' explained Earl Yardley, director of Industrial Vision Systems. 'Historically the camera sensor of a vision system would have been an analogue signal with connection to the vision processor through an Analogue/Digital (A/D) converter or frame grabber.
