The government is being encouraged to take into consideration new design guidelines for railway track before expanding high-speed train links across the UK.rnRail experts from Edinburgh University and Heriot-Watt University have revealed to The Engineertheir suggestions following the Department for Transport's release of a white paper on plans to expand high-speed links in the UKby 2025.rnThe report, released last week, outlines plans for a £60bn Y-shaped route, initially linking London with a new station in Birmingham, but later being extended further north with additional lines - one serving Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh and the other calling at Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle.
