China Modernizes: Threat to the West or Model for the Rest?

This is one of the best of a recent string of books on what, for lack of a better word, we might call the global politics of the Chinese model - how China's approach to market reforms, social and economic rights, delayed democracy and assertive diplomacy have resonated in global society. In this book, Randall Peerenboom, a professor of law at UCLA and a practicing lawyer in China, sets out an empirical argument for why the Chinese model makes sense for China and, in modified form, for other developing nations as well.
