The Architecture Minister, it seems, doesn't like Modernism. We report this week that Margaret Hodge thinks that buildings from the last 75 years should only be prootected if they are still useful, or, to quote Hodge, if they have 'continuity of purpose' (seepage 5). This is not just the rambling of someone with a cosmetic sense of the value of 20th-century buildings, it shows that the old cliches about architecture still have currency.
