French Textile Machinery Industry Focussing on Chinese Textile Market to Gain Increased Market Share and Increase French Textile Machinery Exports to China

The French textile machinery industry has been focussing vigorously on the Chinese market which is today one of the leading textile markets of the World. Chinese textile industry, which is scrapping spindles and diversifying its textile production into texturising, twisting, weaving and processing is a major textile market to reckon with in the world textile industry. The French textile machinery manufacturers sold in year 2001 textile machinery valued at 70 million Euro and are expect to step up their exports of textile machinery to China in years to come. Textile India Progress profiles the dynamic strategy of the French Textile Machinery Manufacturers Association or UCMTF which is taking aggressive steps to increase French textile machinery exports to China. While China has already registered tremendous growth in the textile industry, with China's production of fibres/ yarns reaching 12 million metric tonnes per annum, India's textile industry is just to begin its growth with the 2001 production of fibres and yarns estimated at just 4.5 million metric tonnes per annum, which confirms clearaly that India's textile industry has tremendous growth potential and this gives enormous opportunity for the French textile machinery industry to draw out appropriate strategies of action and ensure its implementation to popularise its products amongst India's 3,000 textile mills, with over 35 million spindles. The current growth era in Chinese textile industry will also take place in India's textile industry very soon and in the Post-MFA regime i.e. by 2010 India's Textile Ministry has targetted to export textiles of the value of US$ 50 billion per annum from the present US$ 14 billion per annum, thereby meaning that the growth in India's textile industry will be thrice the present level. China has been one of the major markets for the French textile machinery industry and UCMTF organised a French pavilion at the CITME 2002 in Beijing in October 2002, where the leading French firms in the field made an impressive presentation. The French textile machinery industry is showing a keen interest in further strengthening its presence in China and establishing closer ties with China's textile industry.
