The new GSP scheme of the EU has opened up great opportunities for Bangladesh textiles, says the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association. "The new scheme graduates India out in textile exports. The EU has also imposed antidumping duties on home textile exports from exports from Pakistan. Products from these countries will no longer get duty benefit from the EU", says BTMA Chairman M.A. Awal. The EU had agreed to offer new preferential market access to the least developed and other developing countries. Furthermore the EU had imposed a voluntary export restraint on 10 categories of Chinese clothing. All this has "created ground for expanding the market of Bangladesh products in the EU."
