In a democratic society that depends on the capabilities of a common, publically funded education system, everyone has a vested interest in learning from those teachers who are outstanding. The outstanding teachers who participated in this study were identified and recognized by their peers. Their examples of outstanding teaching and teacher characteristics and behaviors should be held up as being representative of the ideals that each teacher in technology education strives to achieve. Young people going into the profession of teaching technology education, as well as experienced teachers who want to develop professionally, should learn from the best that technology education has to offer. The answers to the basic question of what makes these exceptional teachers different from their peers can provide all of us with valuable insight toward improving the teaching and learning process.
