Transportation can simply be denned as the movement of goods, services, and people from one location to another. Without an efficient means to transport goods from place to place, our economy would be nothing like it is today. A transportation system is a key ingredient to determining the cost and availability of products and materials as well as providing mobility for people. According to the Bureau for Transportation Statistics (BTS), transportation services made up more than 10% of the United States' Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2002 (RITA).
