Technology Museums in Denmark

The Danish museum sector is rich in numbers; several hundred museums exist, ranging from large national collections to small, private museums operated by enthusiasts and volunteers. Approximately 115 museums are approved to receive state subsidies. Of these, there are several types of institutions: museums can be either owned and operated by one or more local authorities, by an association, or they can be independent. Given the number of existing museums, new ones are seldom approved. The historical background to the high number of Danish museums is in the combination of early state involvement and, perhaps even more important, support from local committees and larger organizations.
