Textile finish traps allergens and sheds them during washing

A negatively charged finish for textiles that attracts the positively-charged allergens has been developed by researchers at Hohenstein Group's William Kuester Institute for Hygiene, Environment and Medicine (WKI) in Bonnigheim, Germany. Working with bedding manufacturer Centa-Star of Stuttgart, Germany, Hohenstein has commercialized this technology. AllergoProtect is a trio of products - a mattress topper, duvet and pillow - which retain over 99.5% of allergens inside their fillings and the covers, even when placed under great mechanical strain, such as when the bedding is shaken.
