Jazzed: Digitizing a Jazz Collection

Private jazz collections offer unique research opportunities for students and scholars. Collectors gather specific recordings that reflect their interests and tastes, and a particular time in history. The Colorado State University Libraries' Charles W. Brown Jazz Collection is a private collection of jazz recordings, donated with a request that they be available solely to the university's students and faculty for research and study. The author describes how the libraries digitized a variety of analog recordings: The challenges we faced with unfamiliar formats, the lessons we learned during the project, and the options we considered when faced with technical difficulties.
