NASA and LASP Open Center For Sun-climate Research

NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and the University of Colorado's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) are forming a collaborative research center dedicated to the sun's effect on Earth's climate, NASA announced Nov. 29.rnThe center, called the Sun-Climate Research Center, will be directed by Robert Cahalan, head of Goddard's Climate and Radiation Branch; Douglas Rabin, head of Goddard's Solar Physics Laboratory; and Peter Pilewskie, a LASP research scientist and University of Colorado professor.rnThe Sun-Climate Research Center, which was made possible by a NASA Space Act Agreement, is meant to foster collaboration between atmosphere and solar scientists at the two institutions. Plans include a scientist exchange program, opportunities for postdoctoral and graduate students to move between the two institutions and annual international Sun-Climate research symposia.
