During a career spanning 31 years serving under three national ensigns and the houseflags of two great North Atlantic lines, she was twice sunk and salvaged and won the Blue Riband of the Atlantic. But she is best remembered for the last 11 years of her life when, matured like a fine vintage into a French flagship, she symbolised the last belle epoque of the North Atlantic. Her name was Liberte.
