The japanese maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) held its triennial fleet review on 25 October, the first since the installation of a new government after 54 years of virtually unbroken conservative rule. The show of naval force included live missile firings with 36 warships and three submarines taking part.rnOne of the participating ships was later involved in a collision with a South Korean container ship as it returned to port. The incident at a notorious bottleneck left the destroyer JS Kurama with a crushed bow and fire damage. The collision is the second in less than two years involving a Japanese warship, although the blame for the latest incident has been apportioned to the freighter.
