North Carr lightvessel sold

Scotland's last surviving lightvessel has been sold to the charity Taymara (Tay Maritime Action) for the nominal sum of El. The 78-year-old ship will remain moored in Dundee, where she will be used as the charity's headquarters and as a base to help young people suffering from drug and alcohol problems. Taymara is looking to raise ￡500,000 to restore the vessel, which, although outwardly rusty, has retained all her original fittings and generators. North Carr was built by A. & J. Inglis in 1933.
