Latest Shannon lifeboat

The latest 13m Shannon class lifeboat to enter service with the RNLI arrived at her new station on 8 April and was declared operational on 20 April after the station's volunteers had undergone the necessary training and two days of intense assessments with the RNLI. The new lifeboat, George Thomas Lacy, was funded from the legacy of the late Mr George Lacy, and was the last Shannon to be built at Berthon Boat Co in Lymington; all future Shannons will be built at the RNLI's dedicated All-Weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole. She replaces the 12m Mersey class lifeboat Robert Charles Brown, which has been on station since 1992.
