The offshore wind farm support sector likes to pride itself on its safety record and safety-conscious ethos. From ship-to-turbine personnel transfers, to safe operation in deep-water and remote locations, this sector has not been afraid to highlight its safety concerns at various conferences and industry gatherings and to hammer out workable solutions. One less-discussed concern, however, is the sheer volume of unexploded ordenance (UXO) littering offshore areas across Europe - including UK, French, German, Dutch and Baltic waters - many of which are prime locations for wind turbine array development.
