Tuco Marine's ProZero 11m Fast Rescue Daughter Craft (FRDC) has been careful to watch its weight. Utilising carbon fibre means lightship displacement of less than 5tonnes, meaning that "even fully laden, we can keep it below 8tonnes in total", Jonas Pedersen, the Danish boatbuilder's CEO, tells Ship & Boat International.Onboard the mothership, this could translate into stepping down the davit from a lOtonne installation to an 8tonne unit, which would raise overall capacity and reduce the investment cost of the launch and recovery system. Importantly, Pedersen says, this makes it possible to fit a fairly substantial FRDC onto ships that would otherwise be incapable of handling something of this size. That's important for offshore crew transfer operators such as Royal Wagenborg, which recently took delivery of the latest of these craft.
