Becker Marine Systems says that it expects to ramp up production of its Compact Battery Rack (COBRA) system following certification by DNV GL. As a result, and in anticipation of future demand, Becker plans to expand the COBRA production halls at Winsen (Luhe) in Lower Saxony, in addition to hiring more personnel. The COBRA battery cells incorporate lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, selected for its properties as a greener' alternative to cobalt-based cell technologies: LFP cells are recyclable, for example. Dirk Lehmann, Becker MD, comments: "This cell chemistry eliminates the risk of fire in the event of a short circuit or overheating, but we still get a compact system with high energy density."
