Scope and method of study. This study was to: Collect life cycle cost data (initial cost, operating cost, maintenance cost, and disposal cost) of GSE from previous studies; Collect interview data from suppliers of fast-charging technology to gain a qualitative insight into the current GSE environment; Update previous GSE life cycle cost studies to reflect current fuel prices and infrastructure cost changes due to the introduction of electric GSE fast-charging systems; Calculate differences in life cycle cost and break-even point after the previous studies are updated to reflect changes in fuel cost and infrastructure cost associated with the introduction of fast-charging systems.; Findings and conclusions. Initial cost was higher for the new technology, electric GSE. Maintenance and operating cost were higher for gas/diesel GSE. Disposal costs didn't apply to GSE vehicles, but only to battery replacement costs. Life cycle cost analysis is an important decision making tool when budgeting near-term cash flow as well as when budgeting for long-term equipment expenditures. Break-even analysis enables proper cash flow decisions and the overall life cycle cost analysis enables long-term strategic decisions for equipment expenditures. The FAA, following Government initiatives, has encouraged airports and air carriers to reduce emissions, reduce America's dependence on foreign oil, and reduce consumption of nonrenewable resources. The current project of implementing electric GSE at major airports is more than the start of a trend. This is the start of a transportation revolution. Additionally, this study shows a need for additional research aimed toward academic studies in Airport Planning and Management due to increased electricity use.
