Vittoria completes Algerian job

Vittoria Shipyard's pledge to diversify further into tug production has resulted in the Ql 2018 delivery of Cap de Fer, an ASD tug completed for Algeria's Skikda Harbour Authority, situated in the country's north-west, close to the border with Tunisia.As reported in Ship & Boat International May/June 2017 (pages 68-69), the Italian boatbuilder managed to fend off rival tenders from 14 other international boatyards to scoop this contract, as part of chairman Luigi Duo's ambitions to add tugs to its roster of newbuild offerings, which more typically includes patrol and SAR craft. The yard has also produced small tankers, fishing craft and passenger vessels, on a less frequent scale. Duo has also made it his mission to expand Vittoria's global customer base, describing this strategy as embarking on "new path of internationalisation".
