The future of ECDIS training

ECDIS has been around for a number of years, but as yet there are no training requirements for using related equipment. One specific area that has been mentioned almost every time the revision of STCW is mentioned is ECDIS training. ECDIS was simply not an issue back in 1995 but is now - the proponents of electronic charts argue -something that has to be brought within the mandatory training.
