摘要

Shipowners, designers and builders trying to comply with IMO's safe return to port requirement are facing a major headache. The requirement is set to enter into force on 1 July 2010, but as yet there are no guidelines by which to interpret the ruling.rnThe requirement for propulsion redundancy is the main issue, because while a vessel's machinery components can be installed in separate compartments relatively easily, duplicating the cables and the pipework for cooling, fuel, lubricant and other systems is proving to be rather more complicated.rnLloyd's Register, together with cruise industry leaders and fellow members of the International Association of Classification Societies, has submitted to the IMO Maritime Safety Committee Working Group proposals for draft guidelines based on the experience gained in applying the requirements so far.
