Reassessing tanker risks

Accountability Office (GAO) in August said that progress had been made since 2007 in assessing the risk posed to tankers, although US Coast Guard (USCG) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigators had yet to complete work needed to protect the tanker trade from terrorism in US waters. The GAO believes that vigilance is still needed in the light of a continuing terrorist interest in targeting tankers.The GAO's August report pointed out that, despite the progress that has been made in tanker security, a national strategy for securing dangerous cargoes was still incomplete.
