Deepsea Somali pirate activity is expected to increase as the monsoon season wanes and sea conditions improve. As SASI went to press, attacks had been recorded in the Arabian Sea and as far south as the Mozambique Channel. On 29 September a chemical tanker was attacked 500nm east of Socotra around an hour before sunset with the sea state at 3-4. When a single skiff approached the vessel, the master sounded the alarm and began evasive manoeuvres.
