This second volume of the scholarly four-volume The Edinburgh History of the Book in Scotland covers one of the most important periods in Scottish history and culture namely the Scottish Enlightenment, a time when many of the great Scottish philosophers (David Hume), writers (Robert Burns), scientists and economists (Adam Smith) flourished following the Act of Union with England in 1707.
