Responding to the evacuation of Network Rail's Three Bridges signalling centre due to a fire on April 26, which caused widespread disruption to rail services on the Brighton Main Line, RMT said that the incident 'shines the spotlight on plans to centralise signalling operations into 14 regional centres'. RMT said NR's signalling strategy (p 11) 'clearly throws up real risks of putting all the eggs in one basket, with the obvious problem of a whole region going down if a centre is taken out of action'.
