Radiosterilization of disposable medical devices

The initial contamination and the radiosensitivity of microorganisms isolated from 400 samples of disposable medical devices such as gauzes. Eye pads, catguts and chest bottles were determined among which the Bacillus spp. Were predominant. For each species the hydrophobicity of spore as measured by ABATH method was greater than that of the vegetative form. Hence, it is necessary to reduce Bcillus Population in samples using a suitable sterilization process such as ionizing radiation.
