Data envelopment analysis of the efficiency of urban cultural industries in China

With the development of China's economy in recent years, its cultural industry has become increasingly prominent. The industry has brought enormous economic and social benefits to the country and is attracting growing attention from the government. Scientific evaluation of the efficiency of the urban cultural industry will help to guide its development. In this study, the efficiency of cultural industries in six cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Tianjin, Yinchuan and Urumqi, were calculated using a three-stage data envelopment analysis model, and the reasons were analysed. The results demonstrated that the overall efficiency of cultural industries in the six cities was poor due to low management and technical levels. The effect of the environment on efficiency was also significant. It was concluded that the model can accurately analyse the efficiency of cultural industries in cities and provide a data reference for their healthy development.
