Stefan Bucher begins the introduction to The GraphicEye, his collection of photographs taken by graphic designers, with the exclamation "Dilettantes and amateurs!" The contributors to the book, he writes, have "no right to call themselves professional photographers, and don't." I get Bucher's idea-it's the publishing equivalent of "Hey, let's put on a show!" But the conceit doesn't quite work.
