Discussion of 'Floor Vibration Control as a Serviceability Requirement in Design Standards and Practices: Review' by Chaimaa Jaafari and Jamshid Mohammadi

The authors have undertaken a formidable task of writing a review of floor vibration control as a serviceability requirement both in design and in upgrading of building floors. They have done an excellent job both of summarizing and discussing the relevant publications in this area. This publication may become a useful reference document. Having read this paper, it was felt that perhaps more space could have been devoted to the topic of vibration absorbers/tuned mass dampers. It is the purpose of this narrative to include a brief discussion so as to enhance this topic as included in this paper. It is the opinion of the discusser that this concept has a future. Two applications of this concept are briefly discussed next.
