The goal of this project is to develop, simulate and evaluate various controller designs for the vibration control of an Active Mass Damper (AMD) experimental setup. The AMD system consists of a one-story building model, with a control mass on the roof. Output measurements consist of cart position and floor position. A state space model of the AMD system was developed previously, and has been used for the current work. The report provides : (a) Review of the system modeling; (b) Development and simulation of a full state feedback design; (c) Development and simulation of a full order observer, in the absence of complete state information; and (d) Direct output feedback control design. It is seen that the full observer design provides better performance in terms of vibration control, as compared to direct output feedback. In addition a full-state LQR design is developed, simulated and compared to the other control designs.
