NRG Energy to cut CO2 emissions by 50% by 2025, achieve net-zero by 2050

NRG Energy on Tuesday announced plans to cut carbon dioxide emissions from 2014 levels to 50% by 2025 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Industry observers said this makes solid business sense and can be done by cutting coal plant output while increasing use of other types of resources. The shift in resources could have significant market effects in the PJM Interconnection, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the observers said.
