Rao Rides To Ryazan's Rescue

Power sector holding company RAO UES and the regional government of Ryazan signed February 18 a cooperation agreement to invest in excess of Rb 23.1 billion (€643.6 million, $933 million) in developing the region's power system to meet anticipated demand growth. According to the agreement, signed by UES chairman Anatoly Chubais and Ryazan regional governor Georgy Shpak, the region's generation capacity will be increased to 4,013 MW by 2012 at a cost of Rb 14.3 billion (€577.5 million), and Rb 8.7 billion (€242.4 million) will be invested in upgrading and expanding the transmission and distribution grids.rnIn terms of new generating capacity, OGK-6 is to commission a 110-MW unit at TPP-24 by 2009, while TGK-4 will add 190 MW by 2010 as a result of thernmodernization of the Dyagilevskaya CHP plant.
