PGE awaits carbon capture funds

Polska Grupa Energetyczna, Poland's largest power group, may be granted 4180 million ($251 million) of EC funds for the construction of a pilot carbon capture and storage facility at the company's 4,440-MW brown coal-fired power plant, Elektrownia Belchatow, earlier than expected, said spokesman Jacek Melich, July 14. "The funds were approved by the European Commission in March to land on the plant's account at the beginning of 2010 but now we can get the money this autumn," said Melich, adding that the plant would receive the money on the condition it is spent by the end of 2011.
