URSO bemoans lack of competition

The number of Slovak electricity and gas suppliers has fallen while the number of traders increased in 2008 compared with a year earlier, according to the latest annual report of sector regulator, URSO.rnIt said that the number of licensed electricity distribution companies fell to 137 last year with the total for gas down to 51, compared to 268 and 82, respectively, the previous year. URSO spokesman Miroslav Luptak said that although the market was fully liberalized, companies were not interested in supplying the domestic market and competition to supply the industrial sector was also weak.
