Increasing tolls to fund infrastructure projects and maintenance is “inefficient, unsafe and damaging to the trucking industry,” a coalition of trucking groups told federal legislators Wednesday. Representatives of the American Trucking Associations urged the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to look instead to higher fuel taxes as the best way to provide a steady source of funding for the federal Highway Trust Fund, which it said is facing “impending bankruptcy.”
