Offshore wind industry can compete with gas and coal within a decade

Industry efforts to reduce capital and operating costs mean that offshore wind will become highly competitive with other forms of energy by 2023, with a levelised cost of energy (LCoE) as low as €90/MWh by 2030, as long as a continual stream of projects enters the pipeline. So said a report published in March 2015 by EY, which specialises in tax, transaction and advisory services. Offshore wind in Europe currently represents one of the most stable sources of renewable energy, the report said, with increased energy capture expected due to Europe's leading position in offshore wind R&D, and is expected to grow to 23.5 gigawatts (GW) by 2020, tripling current installed capacity.
