The Western Branch has continued to pledge support to developing nuclear education (and extending membership) in the local area. We have invested around ￡11k in initiatives such as the following with Bristol University and Bridgwater College:rn1. An annual award of ￡500 to support a Mechanical Engineering final year undergraduate project team whose work is clearly associated with an aspect of Nuclear Energy.rn2. A one-off bursary of ￡1500 to a research student whose research project is linked to the mechanical performance of Nuclear Systems.rn3. A travel fund (limited to a total of ￡1250) to be used between 2008-2011 to fund postgraduate attendance and presentation of a paper at an international conference related to nuclear applicationsrn4. An annual award of ￡2000 (initially for three years) to Bridgwater College to support a group of ten, first-year, full-time, engineering students on a team-building, three-day, outward-bound course and promotion of the nuclear sector as a career path.
