Born in Cyprus in 1913, 'Sel' Ghalib spent his formative years at the English School in Nicosia and Victoria College, Alexandria, before coming to London in 1932. There he took a degree in Electrical Engineering and graduated with first class honours at University College in 1935, where he also received the college diploma.
