Small is beautiful?

The ongoing difficulties with finding the right funding models for new, large-scale nuclear power stations has highlighted the potential benefits of both smaller and differently designed advanced reactors. It is now pretty clear that for large-scale developments (whatever their design) to go ahead in any meaningful way in the UK, the issue of public sector support to enable private sector investment and development will need to be addressed. However, the challenge is significantly smaller and potentially much more manageable for smaller, modular reactors - SMRs.
