There is an error in the caption for the photograph on page 32 of Observer 360. The caption says the Bluff shunt is leaving Invercargill, when in fact it is approaching the city. It is about to pass under the Stead Street overbridge from the south. The photograph has been taken from the walkway/cycleway on the south side of the bridge. The shadows suggest it will be the afternoon shunt, Y33, which would be due back in Invercargill around 1700 hours. Of note also is the hopper wagon which would have been an 'empty' returning from the phosphate works at Ward Crossing. Sadly, no wagons have been into the works there for several months now. At times, I have seen up to six wagons either in the KiwiRail sidings by the Bluff line or on the roads in the plant itself. The line into the phosphate works crosses State Highway 1 from the KiwiRail sidings into the plant. There are manually controlled warning lights on the level crossing.
