The locomotive illustrated on page 12 of Observer 360 is not Bagnall 1803 Sandfly. It is Bagnall 2058, one of the larger 7in × 12in standard locomotives built in 1917 for the UK War Office Timber Supply Depot on behalf of the Canadian Timber Supply - hence the CTS 1 plate on the cab side above the maker's plate. It finished up at the Consett Iron Company in Durham and was scrapped in 1951. Apart from the size, obvious differences include the use of Walschaerts valve gear, rather than the Bagnall-Price gear used on 1803, a later design of smokebox saddle and full-height cab. The "photographer unknown" on page 14 was, of course, Percy Godber; AlexanderTurnbull Library reference No. APG-0636-1/2-G. The "imported passengers" were Hans Knutzen, the Piha mill manager, Sidney Millington, the NZR Stores Branch clerk at Piha from October 1916 to January 1918, and William Austin, the Stores Branch Timber Supervisor who looked after orders to and deliveries from Piha. These days you would probably call him a logistics manager.
