The next step for cloning could be mass production. Australian researchers have created almost 500 genetically identical embryos. They now have to show that these mass-produced embryos will lead to healthy pregnancies. The Australian technology could also be combined with the technique to clone animals from adult cells developed at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh. It might then be possible to make hundreds of copies of an adult animal.
