The "mobile groupware" concept, which provides a location-free collaboration environment, has offered new applications for MCs (Mobile Computers) with wireless communication equipment. NEC proposes a mobile groupware system called "Nakayoshi" which enables more flexible group computing at local areas than the current network technology does. A practical mobile host architecture and a new network management technology allow users to establish or enter and leave the network freely at any time. NEC's original PHS packet communications protocol provides the communications infrastructure. With these three software-based technologies, MCs only need to be equipped with a low power radio modem for a network to be established. The system gives MC users flexibitlity to hold conferences and seminars, or work jointly on electronic files and presentations from preferred indoor or outdoor locations.
