The phrase 'mission control centre' may conjure up images of banks of NASA engineers pondering giant display screens in Houston, Texas. But at Surrey Satel-lite Technology, southwest of London, mission control is a modest affair. From here, a sparsely furnished room in a nondescript business park, a dozen or so desktop Computers are quietly keeping tabs on several working spacecraft. "When TV stations come visit us, they like us to put on headsets and pretend to look busy," says Phil Davies, an engineer who manages the Companys American business. "They'Ve all seen too many James Bond movies."
