Nobel laureate dies

Heinrich Rohrer, a Nobel-prizewinning Swiss physicist, died on 16 May at the age of 79. Together with Gerd Binnig, Rohrer shared half of the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physics for the invention of the scanning tunnelling microscope while at the IBM Research Laboratories in Zurich, Switzerland.
